Portland Retro Gaming Expo

Last Saturday we ventured out to the 10th Annual Portland Retro Gaming Expo! Every year the turnout for this event grows larger, and we were excited to finally get to see what everyone was talking about!

There were all kinds of amazing vendors, events and YouTubers there. Flo even got to meet and chat with a couple of his favorites that he watches! We entered a Puzzle Fighter tournament (which we did not progress in, but was still lots of fun), and Flo was also able to find some good deals and games while we were there as well. I even got a commemorative T-shirt! 😉

This was definitely an event that we will be returning to in future years. Hopefully our little girl will be as into this stuff as he is. <3

Check out some of the awesome things that we got to see at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo!!

Urban Decay’s Vice4 Palette

After much anticipation, it’s finally here! Ladies, I give you the Urban Decay’s Vice4 Palette!

Urban Decay's Vice4 Palette

Let’s talk about the hardware first. Can we just take a second to admire this case? This extra slim palette measures in at just 5/8″ thick! AND the entire top of it is a mirror (see pictures below)! AND it comes with a double ended shadow and crease brush that could be used on its own to complete an entire look. It would be the perfect palette to take with you on your next trip, as it would give you the option of multiple looks in one easy to transport case, and provide you with a huge mirror so you could do your makeup anywhere. Oh, and speaking of cases; this puppy even comes with its own matching carrying case for you to protect it with (see above picture)!

Urban Decay's Vice4 Palette

This oil slick inspired palette comes with 20 never-before-seen shades that completely stay on theme. My pictures don’t do these colors justice! As always with Urban Decay shadows, they are formulated to go on ridiculously smoothly and the colors are all extremely vibrant; and you don’t lose that color payoff when they are applied to the skin. What’s also noteworthy is that they included four matte neutral shadows in this version, a rarity for these Vice palettes.

Urban Decay's Vice4 Palette

I have all of the Vice palettes in my collection, and each time a new one is released I think that I will pass on it because I must have something similar to it already. However, once I see the new amazing-ness that Urban Decay has come up with, I know that I have to have it! I think it is great that they continue to release these limited edition palettes because each one is truly different from the last! So if you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to pick this up, I definitely think that it is worth it. =)

Fortunately for us, Urban Decay is sold at several different stores. Here are the links for a few of the places where you can get it: Ulta, Sephora, Urban Decay.

Seattle Day Trip

This weekend’s adventure was a trip into Seattle for a day!

Our first stop was the Chihuly Garden and Glass. I still cannot get over how incredible all his pieces were! We were both pleasantly surprised as to how much we enjoyed the exposition. One day I will have you, $3,500-decorative-bowl-that-serves-no-purpose-whatsoever-other-than-being-gorgeous…one day!

After that we stopped by a couple of used video game stores for Flo to do some hunting. (Apparently, Seattle is a great city for gamers…I was not aware. LoL) He picked up quite a few items, and was pretty pleased with his haul, so I’m assuming he got some good pieces. :)

We also intended to do some pretty serious baby shopping while we were in town (I had a list and everything!); but sadly, the items I was hoping to pickup were not available. Sorry Baby Beluga, we are going to have to keep hunting!

Seattle is a perfect little getaway for us; it’s far enough where we feel like we got out of town for a while, yet close enough were we don’t have to get a hotel room. That’s probably why we enjoy visiting so often. :)

Check out all the amazing things we saw on our Seattle day trip in the video below!

Baby Beluga Gender Reveal!

It’s a GIRL!!!

Gender Reveal

We finally know the gender of Baby Beluga! After months of anticipating this gender reveal, it is so surreal to finally know that we are going to be having ourselves a little girl! We cannot even contain our excitement! Granted, we would have been happy with either gender; but now that we finally know, it’s like finding out we are pregnant all over again. 😀

We had an amazing shower; surrounded by our closest friends, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Baby Beluga, Flo and I are so sincerely blessed to have such awesome people in our lives! We all cannot wait to meet this little girl!

Now, to go shopping!! =)

The Oregon State Fair – 2015

Last weekend unofficially marked the end of summer. It was also your last chance to get to the Oregon State Fair, and we took full advantage of our long holiday weekend! =)

This was my third time to the fair, and I think I grow to like it more and more every year. There are so many interesting things to see, buy, and of course, eat! We even came home with some pretty cool goodies (I use the word, “cool,” very loosely…I’m sure most people won’t find what we bought cool in the slightest).

I had a great time just wandering around with Flo, checking out all the animals, exhibits, foods and vendors. Along the way, we would think about all the things we will be able to do with Baby Beluga in the upcoming years. It was one of those times where you cherish being alone with your spouse before your baby comes; but part of that enjoyment is from planning out future events with the addition of the baby.

We always have a good time at the fair, but we are even more excited for the years to come knowing that there will be a little one tagging along with us!

Check out some of the cool things we got to see and do at the Oregon State Fair in the video below!

OOTD Maternity Edition

My first Outfit of the Day (OOTD) post! Well, technically, OOTD Maternity Edition. 😉 The larger I get, the more difficult it is to find clothes that fit properly. I have already outgrown the first batch of maternity clothes that I bought in my first trimester! Oi…

OOTD Maternity EditionTop: Pea in the Pod – Pants: Motherhood

The top is a lightweight, breathable, polyester that has a convertible sleeve option. It is a v-neck with a full button front, which makes it easy to get it on and off multiple ways. Though the shirt does look pretty sheer on camera, in person, you can’t see through it nearly as easy. I’ve also seen it worn without the tie belt (see the link below), which is also cute; but I like to keep it on because I feel like it emphasizes Baby Beluga. :)

These pants are a maternity yoga pant that I have been successfully pulling off as work attire (shhh! No one has noticed yet!). They are a cotton and spandex blend, which make them super comfortable to wear all day. The best part is they are petite sized, so they are perfect for my short legs! Yay!

This has quickly become a favorite of mine because it is both fashionable and, most importantly, comfortable! Plus, I always get compliments whenever I wear it, and who doesn’t love that?

My Everyday Primer and Foundation

I always like to try new products; so at any given time, I can be rotating through at least a couple of different foundations and primers. Though I do enjoy a variety of products, every woman that wears makeup on a regular basis has a stand-by, a go-to, a fail-safe, that she can reach for whenever she needs that dependability. For me, my power duo is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and the Clinique Acne Solutions BB Cream. These two amazing products have quickly earned themselves the privilege of being dubbed, my everyday primer and foundation.

Everyday Primer and Foundation

I guess I should start by saying, I have oily skin…I mean seriously oily. It has been that way since I was a teenager and remains so even during my pregnancy. This means that wearing primer is essentially a must for me or else I will look like my face is melting off; which no one wants to see. It also means that I prefer a foundation to have a matte finish over the dewy look – my whole goal is to counteract my natural ability to produce shine on my face. As a personal preference, I am more partial to a medium or full coverage foundation to help cover acne scaring that my youth so graciously left me with. These skin conditions are what led me right to these two beauties.

-= Let’s start where I do in the morning; with the primer! =-

Everyday Primer

The Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is an oil and fragrance free, water-resistant primer that helps reduce shine and feels satiny smooth on your skin. The pump distribution method is not perfection, as it does leave product on the sides and bottom that are harder to get out, but it does supply you with the perfect amount of product needed to cover your entire face. Fun fact: this product is also gluten free – which had no bearing on my decision, but may hold more weight for others.

This is hands down the best primer that I have tried so far (and I have tried more than my share). It does a great job at keeping my foundation in place and when I skip it, I do notice significantly more shine on my face that seems to show up sooner.

– Pros –
Long wearing
Minimizes shine
Oil and fragrance free
Feels amazingly smooth on skin
Pump distributes perfect amount of product

– Cons –
Pump style bottle leaves product behind when you hit the bottom

Click here for where I got mine. It is a little pricey, but I am willing to pay a little more for a product that leaves me this satisfied.

-= Moving onto the foundation! =-

Everyday Foundation

It needs to be noted that the Clinique Acne Solutions BB Cream, though a part of the Acne Solutions line, has NO acne fighting ingredients in it! I repeat, NO acne fighting ingredients; this means no salicylic acid – which is perfect for pregnant me! It is part of the Acne Solutions line because it is designed for oily and acne-prone skin types. Meaning that it is mattifying, oil controlling and minimizes the look of pores while helping to conceal imperfections.

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would call a product with the words ‘BB Cream’ in it my everyday foundation. The term ‘BB cream’ makes me think of barely there, are-you-sure-you’re-even-wearing-makeup type of tinted moisturizers; but this product defies that correlation! While it is a great source of SPF (40! Which I haven’t seen in a face product before), it also provides great looking, build-able coverage! What’s also great is that the lightweight formula doesn’t feel caked on when you go back to add more product in problem areas.

– Pros –
High SPF
Long wearing
Oil and fragrance free
Great coverage and finish

– Cons –
Only comes in 5 shades
The shake-well bottle makes it a bit hard to tell how much product is remaining

Click here to see where I got mine.

You can’t go wrong by adding either (if not both) of these to your lineup! They are great stand-alone products but work amazingly together. I’d highly recommend them to anyone with normal to oily skin types.

Let me know in the comments if there are any other great face products for oily skin types out there that I need to give a try!

Road Trip Day!

To celebrate my wonderful husband’s birthday, we decided to take a road trip through Oregon!

First, we stopped at our alma mater, Oregon State University. Then moved further west to Newport.

Please don’t judge us for our dirty car windows…or for my crazy hair at the end of the video…=/

Review: Tory Burch ‘Plaque’ Satchel

As you are obviously aware, as you progress through pregnancy your belly is going to get larger. It will become increasingly harder to carry heavier items (and eventually you will reach a stage where many advise against the lifting of heavy objects altogether) and complete tasks that you once did with ease. We all know that this comes with the territory.

These are the exact reasons I decided to make this purchase.

My everyday bag was a Tory Burch ‘Robinson Double Zip’ tote – if you look it up, you’ll see that it’s a pretty sizable bag – that I always carried practically filled to the brim (because if I have the space in the bag, I will find something to put in it). It had gotten to a point where I could no longer reach over to the passenger seat, grab my purse, and get out in one swift motion. Baby Beluga had become a bit of a road blocker for me. :)

I needed something smaller…something that would force me to carry less with me. Preferably a cross-body that I could throw over my shoulder and still have both my arms free – especially since baby is coming! The ‘Plaque’ satchel was exactly what I was looking for!

Though I am not the biggest fan of the name, I think it was a great solution to my problem. Even when completely full (and it does actually fit a good amount of stuff in it – see below), this bag does not feel overly heavy. I am able to walk around comfortably all day with it being stuffed. The pebbled-leather has a very sophisticated and luxurious feel to it, and the gold hardware completes the classic Tory Burch look perfectly. The sturdy cross body strap has adjustable lengths, so it can be worn by people of all heights. My only gripe is that since it is a soft leather, it scuffs and scratches fairly easy, so wear and tear will show up a little sooner than I am used to.

To wrap up; I am completely satisfied with this purchase and am very happy that I decided to make the switch to something smaller! The above picture is everything that I normally carry now. It is also worth noting that there is still space in the bag! I have often added my point-and-shoot camera inside its carrying case as well as a bag of snacks.

Here is a summary of my thoughts:

– Pros –
Sturdy, luxurious feel to bag
Fits a sizable amount of stuff
Comfortable cross-body option
Lovely golden hardware

– Cons –
Pebble-leather scuffs/scratches easily
A bit pricey

Alice & Travis’ Wedding Ceremony

On August 2, 2015, another happy couple tied the knot!

I actually got to be a vendor AND a guest at this wedding! …well kind of…technically? LoL –  The bride works with me and asked that I do her makeup for the occasion! Of course I HAAAAD to oblige her; you never say no to a bride! 😉

I’m pretty much always happy to do makeup for people, because I feel that it helps me to improve my skill set. Working this event made me realize that I need to start a portfolio of some sort…or at least take some better before and after pictures. The goal being of course to improve with time, and document the progression.

The first half of the video is a speed up of us getting her face on, and the rest is the beautiful ceremony.

Congratulations Alice and Travis!!
